ABOUT JANA DUTY:
Jana Duty is a seventh generation Texan; a direct descendant of Joseph Duty who was one of the “Old Three Hundred” who came to Texas with Stephen F. Austin and settled in an area now known as Webberville (outside of Austin).

EDUCATION:
Jana is a native of San Antonio Texas where she graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1983.  She attended the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she earned her Bachelors Degree with honors in English.  She then taught high school English/Literature at  Winston Churchill High School  for three years before deciding to attend law school.  

She attended law school at St. Mary’s University School of Law where she graduated and passed the Bar in May of 1997.

EXPERIENCE:
While attending law school, Jana worked for the United States Attorney’s Office in the Appellate Division and then in the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office as a paid intern in the Juvenile Division.  

After passing the Texas Bar, Jana was hired by the Bexar County District Attorney as a family violence prosecutor where she worked as the Protective Order Attorney and then as a family violence prosecutor in the family violence court.  She then moved to the Austin area with her family due to her husband’s promotion.

After moving to Round Rock, Jana worked for Legal Aid of Central Texas on a VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) grant, again, representing victims of family violence for protective orders and divorces.  Soon after, Jana accepted a position at the Williamson County Attorney’s Office working in the Child Protective Services and Protective Order section and then in the criminal division before moving into private practice for four years.  In private practice Jana practiced juvenile and criminal defense, and family law which consisted mostly of ad-litem work (which means representing the children in cases where they are removed from their homes due to abuse and/or neglect).

While in private practice Jana and her husband Daniel became licensed foster parents where they cared for three foster children.  In 2004, Jana decided to run for the office of  County  Attorney.  

Her bid for election was successful and she has served as  County Attorney since January 1, 2005.


FAMILY:                                                                                                                                                                          

Jana is married to Daniel Hunsicker, who is a Certified Arborist.  He runs the Davey Tree Expert Company as the District Manager for the Central Texas region.  Jana and her husband Daniel have three children and three grandchildren. 

Aarica, their oldest daughter, is finishing her degree in Elementary Education at Texas State in Round Rock.  Aarica is married with two children, Elijah and Kendall.  Jessica, the “middle child” is applying to transfer to the University of Texas’ School of Architecture, to pursue a degree in architecture.  Jessica is also married with one son, Triston.  Last, but certainly not least, Jana and Daniel have “Little Daniel”, their youngest son, who is an honor student in the Liberty Hill ISD.  Daniel is a black belt in Tia Kwon Do and is now pursuing his new passion: playing the guitar.
